East Croydon Bridge

East Croydon station is the second busiest interchange station in the UK (behind Clapham Junction) and the eighth most used station in the UK. Along with Mott MacDonald and Hawkins Brown, Studio Egret West have been employed by Network Rail and East Croydon Council to undertake the design of a new footbridge as phase one of the East Croydon Masterplan, also by Studio Egret West.

Beautifully utilitarian in its finishes, with servicing, information display and retail contained within the central spine, East Croydon Bridge is a clear emblematic structure that unites the white silhouettes of No.1 Croydon and East Croydon main station.

Our proposals put an emphasis on deliverability and we produced a clear and costed implementation strategy. Since Summer 2010 we have been appointed to detail the first phase intervention which is a £17 million pedestrian bridge that opens up a crucial east – west connection across the tracks increasing the capacity of the station and relieving congestion. This intervention won planning in Spring 2011 and will be completed by 2013.
