Evolution Gateshead, a joint venture between Home Group and Galliford Try, has signed a legal agreement with Gateshead Council. The arrangement will enable a design team led by Studio Egret West (as masterplanners, architects and landscape architects) and including S333, Alison Brooks and Red Box to start work across 19 sites over the next 15 years.
Thousands of new homes will be created for North East families in the £347m deal which is attempting to deliver development across a wide area and is one of the first times that a social housing developer and a publicly-listed commercial developer have worked in partnership with a local authority.
The project will create 600 affordable homes – a mix of shared ownership and affordable rent – and 1,800 private dwellings.
Homes will be built at Birtley Northside, the former Rail Freight Depot on the Felling bypass, and sites in Rowlands Gill, Chopwell and Bensham and Saltwell.
