Last night we celebrated the opening of the new Library Building in Clapham with LB Lambeth and our development partners Cathedral and United House. The public art outside the building was unveiled too. Seven big, beautiful letters that spell ‘Library’ stand within the new public space right outside the building and have been decorated by artist Andrew Logan in his signature mirror mosaic.
Each letter is inset with a mass of personal items, donated by the people of Clapham as permanent and personal reminder that the library is for them.
After gathering on the pavement outside to watch the unveiling, everyone headed inside to the library to be entertained by a group of performance poets from Apples and Snakes who read poems they had written about the new library to the crowd below.
